First graders are working hard on improving their skills in an array of academic areas. Students at Museum Magnet improve their reading skills by using a balanced literacy approach. Small group instruction allows each individual student to read at their own level as they progress throughout the year. In addition to classroom instruction: library visits, the Rise and Read , the Everybody Wins program and a leveled take home library round out the first grade reading experience, So far this year we have read over 4,168 books ( and counting). As a teacher there is nothing more exciting than watching 6 and 7 year old students begin to master this vital life long skill. Reading is Good!!!!
A distinguishing characteristic of Museum Magnet is our two yearly exhibits. Please check out the exhibit link for more information.
Another main focus is math. Using the everyday math first graders a challenging, fun and hands on method to learn math everyday. There is a information on everyday math in the links section.
