Homework
Jan. 25, 2007                    Friday Homework #16

This homework is designed to be completed as a family.  The booklet, From Snowball to Snowman and this form both need to be returned to school this Monday.

The students have been sounding out beginning, middle and ending sounds very well.  Now, it is time to learn more sight words in order for our kindergartners to progress further in their reading.  Please help your child to learn these sight words:  from, to, here, are, is, his, and of.

Goal:  Listening to your kindergartner read sight words and words they                         can decode (sound out).

Task:  Ask your child to read the booklet From Snowball to Snowman, to
you.  The sight words (from, to, here, are, is, his and of) are in this
booklet.  Your child should begin to read these words as well as
words they can sound out such as:  hat, nose, berry, scarf, buttons,
                  made, arms, and broom.

A list of sight words is attached for you to use with your child.  Please cut the words apart and have your kindergartener practice reading them.  Now, add
some other winter words and make sentences.  Talk about using upper-case letters to begin the sentence and the importance of ending each sentence with a
period.  Write some of your sentences on the back of this form and return to
school on Monday.

Next, you can add, From Snowball to Snowman, to your January Book Reading Log.

Return Monday:  ___ this form with sentences on back     ___ booklet

Your signature below states you have read the From Snowball to Snowman booklet with your child and practiced reading and writing the sight words targeted this week.
