| Welcome To Music at Museum Magnet! | | Fall Semester Music Program: Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at 2 pm
Kindergarten students are exploring their voices by singing songs, reading rhythm syllables and performing them on rhythm instruments. They are also learning the months of the year, the days of the week and counting to 100 by singing songs! Each kindergarten class is rehearsing a "mini-opera." "Crany Crany Crow" is about a witch who steals the children named after the days of the week from her sister and brothers who are named after the months of the year. Don't worry, there is a happy ending! The mother reunites the 'days of the week' with the 'months of the year' in the end! And all of the family are at home in their "family ring!"
The second "mini-opera" is called "Grizzly Bear." Some feisty children are hiking in the forest and awaken a hungry grizzly bear from his hibernation. The bear is not happy about this at all!
Both Kindergarten classes will be performing in the music program!
 See the Kindergartners in action!

4th Grade is learning to play recorders. They are learning to play duets and harmony pieces that add to the songs they are learning to sing. They are reading rhythm syllables and solfege syllables, singing, speaking raps! The 4th grade will be playing recorder songs in the music program.
6th Grade work includes sight reading rhythms and two-part solfege songs, writing original rhythms, identifying song styles, and accompanying themselves on Orff Instruments and drums. Students will sing in the music program as well as MC the show. Dancers rehearsed a performance piece during recess for the show as well.

Music Program: TBA
1st Grade First graders will be reviewing the concept of steady beat and adding the rhythm pattern of quarter, eighth and quarter rests. They will be working on singing with expression and identifying so, la, do, mi solfege syllables. They will be playing rhythm and Orff instruments to accompany their singing. The first grade will work toward a spring performance!
3rd Grade Third graders will experience more complex rhythms by working with syncopation, tied notes, and sixteenth notes. They will learn to sing and hear the pentatonic scale: Do, re, me, sol, la. They will be singing, playing rhythm and Orff instruments and some recorder. The third grade will prepare a performance for the spring!
5th Grade Taking more of a lead role in music, fifth graders will work with recorders to a greater extent. Singing will include 2-part singing in the form of partner songs, canons, as well as songs with polyphony based harmony, rhythm and Orff instruments. Rhythms are expanded to use dotted patterns, eighth/sixteenth note varieties. Fa and ti are added to the solfege collection, thus finishing the major scale. Orff work on xylphones will enhance their hearing of I, IV, V chord progressions. The fifth graders will also prepare a spring performance!
Classes will earn "Friday Free Time" consisting of Choice Time/Game Time. There is also a contest for the class with the most behavior "stars!" The winning class(es) will get to watch a movie at semester end! I am hoping for a 3-way tie!!
