| | | | | Our Philosophy | | We believe that each child has his or her own
unique learning style and that it is our job as teachers to discover
and nurture those learning styles. Establishing basic trust
between the children and ourselves builds the child’s confidence in
taking risks and exploring. Working with children who are
entering school for the first time gives us the opportunity to help
them develop a strong foundation on which to base their educational
careers.
It is important for us to help our students
feel good about being in school, to have them leave each day happy to
have been here and look forward to coming back again.
Although the academics are a crucial part of
our day together, and we have very high expectations for our students,
we believe that before any academic learning can take place the
children need to have an active role in creating the classroom
environment, learn to work together and take ownership of their
behavior. In order for positive behaviors to become the norm, the
students need to know what the expectations are and what the
consequences are for not living up to those expectations.
Finally, even though a lot of incredible
learning takes place over the school year, the socializing, laughter
and enjoyment of Kindergarten remain the most important parts.
The Kindergarten Year is similar to a road-trip, full of wonderful
sights to see and adventures to be had. Often we study a topic in
depth, but many times we will explore without the demands of
mastery. We keep in mind that childhood is a process
which shouldn’t be rushed but nurtured and enjoyed!
