Our Principal - Mr. Brookins.
Mr._Brookins
Welcome to the 2008-09 school year!   The digit 8 represents new beginnings.  These new beginnings represent hope for all of us and especially the children.  I can clearly remember anticipating a new school year as a child.  The thrill of having a new classroom teacher, that I could show how smart I was caused me to be the first at school many days, and particularly the first day.   Now I anxiously wait to hear stories from students about the exciting things they did over the summer. This begins the relationship building between them and me. My overarching goal for every child is to build strong foundations academically, emotionally and socially.  We will move into the new school year with renewed zeal for raising student achievement.   Our school focus this year is Belief in Action – accelerating student learning through relationship building and high expectations.

To accomplish this, Museum staff will participate in ongoing professional development activities, where professional dialogue will guide our individual and collective focus toward instruction, and addressing the needs we have as a school.

We want to involve parents and community members as we work towards increasing student achievement by encouraging them to:

1.       Talk with their child(ren) about his/her reading level and the books they read on a regular basis.

2.       Review behavior and school-wide expectations with their child(ren) regularly and support school decisions regarding enforcement of policies.

3.       Be explicit in the expectations they have for their child(ren) and the school.

Below are a few important things for you to know and dates to add to your calendar before school begins.

Ø      The Welcome Back to School event will be held Thursday, August 28th from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Families will be able to meet staff and their child’s homeroom teacher.

Ø      School begins Tuesday, September 2, for grades 1-6.  Kindergarten begins on Monday, September 8th.  School starts at 9:10 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m. daily.  Please do not have students at school any earlier than 8:55 a.m. if you drop them off or if they walk. Adult supervision is unavailable before that time.  Beginning September 2nd at 9:00 a.m. staff will meet and greet your child(ren) at the yellow doors and direct them to breakfast or classroom.

Ø      Look for Wednesday Packets to arrive each week with announcements and other important information.  Packets will begin to be sent September 3,  2008.

Ø      Enclosed is information on class assignment, bussing, and a supply list.

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, August 28th and working with you all school year to provide the best educational experience for your child(ren) this year.  Museum Magnet is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.  We have talented, creative, and dedicated teachers and staff members.  Working together with the school staff will allow this school year to be a success for your family.

Looking forward to seeing you and your child(ren) soon,
