Rondo Learning Center
Welcome to the Rondo Learning Center, a special education program where the students are valued and the staff is dedicated.  We educate thirty special education students who have severe behavior and emotional difficulties.  We have three classrooms of ten students each, and the support of three to four staff members per class.  We strive to provide a family-like atmosphere where learning is FUN!

Mission Statement:  To provide integrated educational, therapeutic and family intervention in a school-based setting, serving children in grades 3-6 who are experiencing serious social, emotional, behavioral, and learning problems.

What are Learning Center Services?
*  Federal Setting 3 program for children with emotional and/or behavioral disturbances.
*RLC staff work together to provide a positive and safe environment where children feel successfu by building on their strengths.
*  Children spend time in general education when they have made sufficient progress and the parent/school team believe they will be successful.


What Services Do We Provide?
*  Small group academic instruction by a highly qualified teacher and trained paraprofessionals.
*  Social skills instruction to help children learn school success skills and handle conflicts peacefully.
*  Mental health support from a school social worker.
*  Additional services may include:  speech, OT, individual therapy, group therapy, and community outreach services.

Who Provides These Services?
Team Leader - Jill Knudsen, (EBD Teacher and licensed Principal)
*Oversees day-to-day operation of Learning Center program.  Maintains open communication between parents, staff, students, and community.  Maintains an inclusive, bias-free climate while supporting and directing staff to enhance program quality.

Teachers - Bill Lerman, Paula Mollin, and Cathy Smith
*Highly qualified and licensed to teach students with EBD.  They are experienced in working with the variety of learning, emotinal, and behavioral difficulties that Learning Center students experience.  Teachers work with the IEP team to design appropriate individual education plans for students.

Social Worker - Lily Tharoor (LICSW)
*  Licensed social worker who provides individual or group therapy, providing mental health services to students, consultation with staff, and collaboration with community agencies.

Paraprofessionals - Educational and Teaching Assistants
*  Trained in behavior management techniques and supportive intervention to help students process their emotions and succeed academically.  They accompany students on the bus, in class, and during preps, lunch and recess.
