My name is Rahn Carlson. I have taught English Language Learners (ELLs) in the St. Paul Schools for 9 years. I have personal and educational experience to share in the
classroom. I have always been an avid traveler, curious and
adventurous enough to have traveled abroad and lived in various
countries. I first experienced language and culture
through foreign study in Costa Rica, Central America. After having
studied for one year at the University of Costa Rica, I took off on a
two-month trip traveling back to the US by land. These combined
experiences gave me purpose for developing my
foreign language skills in Spanish and Portuguese. Later, I lived in Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Brazil for a number of
years. I continue to travel regularly to Latin America to maintain my
foreign language proficiency and to further my understanding of these
different cultures. I enjoy going to Mexico and Puerto Rico yearly.
I graduated from the University of
Kansas with a Bachelor's Degree in Art History. I received a Master's
Degree in Linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago,
Illinois. In Chicago, I started a second MA program in Education at Loyola University in
Education, subsequently receiving licensure in ELL K-12 from Hamline
University here in St. Paul.
My hobbies include home renovation, cooking, travel, antiquing, rock and artifact collecting, and many more.
I welcome parents to schedule a visit to our classroom.
