Welcome to
the 2009-10 school year!I hope that your summer was restful and you
were able to accomplish the task of making time for yourself and your
children. As I settle on how we as a
team should begin this school year, I have determined that we should begin the
year with feelings of urgency and hope. The urgency comes as result of our desire to
pick up the instruction where we left off.Our students made advances in reading and math as a result of working in
small groups and our ability to focus the instruction to meet their specific
needs.We are hopeful of additional
successes as a result of our journey with Science Technology Engineering and
Math, STEM.Next, I am pleased to inform you that over the summer we received a
grant that will enable us to receive additional professional development in
Engineering. This will allow us to implement the Engineering is Elementary
curriculum in grades 1- 6.
In addition to
our expansion of the engineering curriculum, we are also enriching the reading
curriculum by adding more structure, books, and by being very intentional about
the methods we use to deliver whole group and individual student instruction in
reading.We will closely monitor the
reading progress of each student and communicate with families regarding their
child's progress early and more often.
As parents and
community members we want you to help us increase student achievement by:
1.Talking
with your child (ren) about his/her reading level and the books they read on a
regular basis.
2.Read
to your child (ren) daily.
3.Review
school-wide academic and behavior expectations with your child (ren) regularly
and support the decisions that the school makes regarding enforcement of the
policies.
4.Be
explicit in the expectations you have for your child (ren) and the school.
